Semaglutide belongs to the class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. Originally developed for treating type 2 diabetes, it has since gained attention for its effectiveness in weight management. Semaglutide works by mimicking the natural hormone GLP-1. This hormone plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels, promoting insulin release, and reducing appetite. 

Tirzepatide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) AND a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist.  Similar to Semaglutide, Tirzepatide activates 2 different chemical mechanisms to regulate blood sugar optimization and appetite reduction. For this reason Tirzepatide results in a slightly higher incidence of weight loss but may not be suitable for everyone.

• Patients with significant health histories or over the age of 65 may be required to be evaluated by their primary care provider for written clearance before we can treat you. This is evaluated on an individual basis but if you are thinking about seeking treatment for weight loss with Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, then discuss this with your primary care provider or specialist and get that written clearance before scheduling your appointment with us.

Common side effects from Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can include nausea, vomiting,  diarrhea, constipation, and indigestion. Those who should not take Semaglutide or Tirzepatide include patients already taking GLP-1 or GIP medications, patients with kidney disease, a history of pancreatitis or gallstones, those with type 1 diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, or planning to become pregnant, or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer.

4. Regular Follow-Up Appointments: Regular check-ins with Reflections Wellness trained staff members or providers are crucial to monitor progress and address any concerns. Adjustments to dosage or recommendations for lifestyle changes may be made based on individual responses.
